New Delhi: An NGO has alleged that an American tourist was allegedly gangraped by five men in March at a five-star hotel in Connaught Place, police said on Friday.

According to police, they were investigating a complaint from an NGO, through an email, stating that the US citizen was gangraped by five men who entered into her room on the pretext of some tour and travel related work.

External Affairs Minister swiftly reacted to the report and asked the police to register a case and book the guilty.

“I have also asked Indian Ambassador in US to contact the victim and assure her that we will not spare the guilty,” Sushma tweeted on Saturday.

“American national sexual assault case: Spoken to Delhi LG & told him Police should register case and bring the guilty to book,” she said in another tweet.

The woman had gone back to her country and since she was scared, she didn't approach police, a senior police official said, adding that the complaint was being investigated and following the inquiry, an FIR will be lodged within a couple of days.
