Bhopal: Akhil Bharatiya Vidyarthi Parishad (ABVP), the student wing of BJP, has swept the student union elections in Madhya Pradesh by securing five out of total six universities in the state. The results to the polls, held after a gap of five years, were declared on Monday evening. While ABVP won Bhopal, Indore, Ujjain, Rewa, and Gwalior, NSUI, the student wing of Congress, won Jabalpur. ABVP secured nearly 85 percent posts of student unions in the colleges under these universities. Aam Admi Party (AAP) made debut in student union polls in MP this time and won post of president of the student union in six colleges.

Elections were held in 19 government colleges affiliated to Bhopal-based Barkhatullah University.

While ABVP swept polls in 12 colleges, NSUI secured 4 colleges. Independents emerged winners in one college. Reports poured in here said of the 18 colleges in Indore district, ABVP won all posts of the student union in six colleges, while NSUI secured a majority of posts of the union in five colleges. Independents won a majority of posts of the student union in seven other colleges.

Similarly, of eight colleges in Ratlam district, ABVP won majority posts of the student union in seven colleges whereas NSUI drew blank. Independents won a majority of posts of the student union in the rest college. In Sagar district, ABVP won 15 out of total 17 colleges. NSUI had to contend with only one college. In Mandsaur district, where six farmers were killed in police firing on April six this year, ABVP swept polls in eight out of ten colleges. NSUI failed to open an account in any college in the district. Elections were suspended in two other colleges in the district. Similarly, in Neemuch district, ABVP swept polls in six out of eight colleges, while NSUI drew blank. Elections were suspended in one college.
