A young couple from from Maharashtra committed suicide late on Wednesday night by jumping in front of a running train at Etmadpur in Agra district.
The man was identified as Zakir Hussain and the woman as Ayodhya Dinkar. Their identity was ascertained from belonging found near their bodies by the railway tracks.
According to eye witnesses, the couple were seen standing near the railway tracks for about half-an-hour, and as soon as they saw a train approaching, they held hands and jumped before it before anyone could understand what had happened.
The eye witnesses immediately informed the police, and the badly mutilated bodies were sent for post-mortem.
According to preliminary investigations, the two had left their homes about five days ago. They arrived in Agra on Wednesday and spent almost the whole day at the Taj Mahal, where they got themselves photographed.
“We are trying to find out where the couple stayed in Agra. We have located their respective addresses and informed their family members about the incident. We presume that since both belong to different religions, they were having problems in continuing with their relationships and hence, decided to end their lives,” said a senior police official.
