To celebrate the promising new talents of Marathi cinema, Godrej India Culture Lab and 1018mb will be hosting a film festival titled, Marathi Cinema Now - voices from the Marathi New Wave.
To celebrate the promising new talents of Marathi cinema, Godrej India Culture Lab and 1018mb will be hosting a film festival titled, Marathi Cinema Now - voices from the Marathi New Wave. The festival will celebrate the best of recent Marathi cinema on the Independence Day weekend.
“The Marathi film industry has been pushing the boundaries of how cinema is made in the country with the amazing stories they are writing, and the innovative ways in which they are telling these stories,” says Kevin Lobo, curator at the Culture Lab. Speaking further on the driving force behind the festival, he Kevin further adds, “To celebrate these new talents, Marathi Cinema Now will present a lineup of films that showcase a cross section of this incredible talent, ranging from blockbusters, to critically acclaimed national Award winners.”
The festival will open with Halal, directed by national award winner Shivaji Lotan-Patil. Apart from premieres of Halal and Ringan: The Quest, which tells the story of parental love against the backdrop of drought and farmer suicides, the festival will also have LGBT-focussed short films, Daaravtha and Mitra.
Blockbusters like Katyar Kalijat Ghusli, Highway Ek Selfie Aarpar and Natsamrat will also be part of the festival.
“Eight films over three days, with question and answer sessions with the cast and crew after the screenings, there is something for everyone,” Kevin assures.
