Bihar chief minister Nitsh Kumar on Wednesday joined the chorus of condemnation on the suicide of a dalit student in Hyderabad and blamed the “current state of intolerance” under the ruling BJP at the Centre as well as in the states.

The CM, while speaking for the first time on the issue in Patna, also demanded an impartial and high-level probe into the matter saying, “It is matter of grave concern that a dalit student was forced to end his life due to unpleasant treatment. We demand an impartial probe into the matter and stern action against those responsible.” Further, he said, “Several factions have suddenly emerged creating an environment of intolerance in the society causing unrest among the masses”.

Earlier, RJD chief Lalu Yadav after the suicide of the Rohith Vemula had criticised the BJP holding their “anti-dalit policy” responsible and had accused them of doing divisive politics.

“It’s the RSS and the BJP’s anti-dalit and casteist policy which forced the dalit student to take his life, they should not play with the life of students belonging to deprived class”.

Rohith Vemulla, an active member of Ambedkar Student’s Association, had committed suicide inside the campus of Hyderabad Central University on Sunday.
