Top stars to feature in Obaidullah Cup

The Obaidullah Khan Heritage Hockey Cup will be held from September 14 to 21 at the Aishbagh Hockey Stadium in Bhopal.

India’s top teams including Air India, BPCL, NGC, Indian Oil Corporation, Indian Railways, Madhya Pradesh Hockey Academy, Association of India Universities, Punjab & Sindh Bank, Punjab National Bank, Central Secretariat Sports Control Board, Food Corporation of India and Comptroller and Auditor General will vie for top honours.

The best of Indian talent including V.R. Raghunath, S.V. Sunil, Manpreet Singh, Devindar Walmiki, Nikkin Thimmaiah, S.K. Uthappa, Kothajit Singh, Ramandeep Singh and the coach Tushar Khandker will participate in the tournament.

The champion team will receive a prize money of Rs 51 lakh, while the runners up will receive Rs 21 lakh, third placed team Rs 11 lakh and the fourth placed team Rs 5 lakh.

Apart from the cash awards to the teams, an amount of Rs 5000 each will also be given to the player of the match. The first match is scheduled to be played between IOC and ONGC on Wednesday.
