Delhi, Gujarat teams advance

Delhi’s VSA Senior Secondary School, Khera Garhi, hammered AMMR Government Higher Secondary School of Wayanad, Kerala, 14-0 to book their place in Phase II of the 44th Nehru junior hockey tournament at Shivaji Stadium in the capital on Wednesday.

Kuldeep and Somjeet were the top scorers with four and three strikes respectively, as the team put up an authoritative display.

The hosts opened up the scoring in the third minute and the rout continued till the last minute. Parmod pumped in two goals, while a strike each from Amit, Mohit Khatri, Rajiv, Paramjeet and Deepak rounded off the big win.

Later, Baroda’s Urmi School and Hostel too advanced following a 10-3 win over Assam’s Kamrup Academy.Vaibhav Shah scored five goals for the winners, including a hat-trick, while Dushyant Kariya added two. Shyam Prakash and Vivek Singh Rajput were the other goal scorers.

Deepjytoi Das and Niranjan Boro (two) scored for Kamrup Academy.
