Overnight leaders Mehar Atwal and Kiran Matharu carded 5-over 77 each in the second round, but still managed to retain their lead in the first leg of the Hero Women’s Professional Golf Tour at the Kensville Golf & Country Club in Ahmedabad on Wednesday. Two strokes behind was Delhi’s Vani Kapoor with a total score of 154. The Rs 7 lakh event will culminate on Thursday.

Delhi’s Atwal struggled with conditions and carded three bogies. She tried to control the damage with a birdie on the 9th hole, but a birdieless back nine meant that she had to share the lead with Matharu, with a total score of 152 after Round Two.

Matharu too struggled to stitch together a series of consistent shots and played a birdieless round. Vani carded 6-over 78 to maintain her overnight third position.

Chandigarh’s Saaniya Sharma carded 3-over 75 — the day’s best score — to jump into the fourth position. She could have finished higher but a double bogey on the 3rd hole meant that she had to be content with the fourth position with a total of 155.

Panchkula’s Amandeep Drall (158) scored 4-over 76 to take the fifth place. Kapurthala’s Gursimar Badwal and Delhi’s Ankita Tiwana were tied sixth on 160.
