Akshay Kumar’s third release of this year after Padman and Gold is set to be his highest opening ever across all languages as 2.0 has gotten off to a flying start – much lower than films that would release on festivals or on Fridays. The film is expected to collect a total of ` 55-60 crore in net collections all over India in three languages hoping to beat Thugs of Hindostan, which collected over ` 52 crores in a single day.

Released a day earlier with no festival around, this could be the highest non-festival Thursday opening for the Hindi version as well.

Thugs of Hindostan also opened on a Thursday, but during Diwali.

Starring Rajinikanth in the lead role with Akshay playing the villain the Hindi collections of the film are expected to be between ` 15-20 crore net. Collections of south films in the south are measured in terms of gross collections and trade analysts predict around 25-30 crore in Tamil, a little more in Telugu because, “the film has opened in 1200 screens in Telugu and 800 in Tamil. Kerala and Karnataka are also expected to gross around ` 16 crore put together,” says Ramesh Bala, a trade analyst.

Atul Mohan, Editor Complete Cinema feels that the film is not so great in the north, but may do better if there is word of mouth about the film which hasn’t opened as well as it was expected to because of the craze of the first part Robot a.k.a Endhiran. “The film is visually a delight, but then the second part does not have a great story like the first one,” says Atul.

Booking company bookmyshow has reported the sale of over a million tickets online through its ticket-booking portal. “We have seen a phenomenal response for advance ticket bookings for 2.0. It has been one of the most awaited films of the year and this has reflected well on the ticket sales so far,” says Ashish Saksena, COO-Cinemas, BookMyShow. Whether the audience goes to watch a film laden with visual effects or will they search for the missing story remains to be seen.
