Actress Kalki Koechlin plays a music producer in the upcoming film Gully Boy. The actress, who has earlier teamed up with Zoya Akhtar in Zindagi Na Milegi Dobara, is proud of the filmmaker’s level of maturity. In fact, she can’t stop gushing about Zoya.

Kalki says, “It’s a huge new step she has taken. She is shooting on location in the Mumbai slums in Dharavi, which is new for her. Usually, Zoya’s films are shot at some stunning locations. This time, it’s a different world for her. So, she has come out of her comfort zone.”

“She had an incredible time and also dealt with the crowd wonderfully. It is not easy to shoot on location, especially in Mumbai,” adds the actress.

About the film, she says, “It’s about Dharavi slum rapping. Ranveer Singh is playing a rapper in the film and I am playing a music producer who helps him with one of the songs. The story is so part of our city; this rap culture that has come from the slums with its hard-hitting lyrics. It is really beautiful that someone is bringing voice to that.”

The film, directed by Zoya Akhtar, also stars Ranveer Singh and Alia Bhatt and is scheduled to release on February 14, 2019.
