The rumours of Deepika replacing Kangana Ranaut in Anurag Basu’s Imli have been put to rest.

Deepika Padukone

Bollywood fans woke up on Saturday to the news that Deepika Padukone may replace Kangana Ranaut in Anurag Basu’s Imli. However, sources in the know dismiss this as nothing but wishful thinking.

“Deepika would never do a role rejected by Kangana, she would never hear the end of it. Kangana and her sister love to tell the film industry and the audience about the roles that Kangana has rejected.  Not a very nice thing to do. But then Kangana and her spokesperson-sister do what they like, regardless of repercussions. Deepika certainly doesn’t want to get into an embarrassing position,” the source reveals.

Nevertheless, Anurag Basu’s claim that he has met Deepika are indeed true. “They had an informal meeting, where Basu told her about the role in Imli. She liked it, but she never said yes, and she won’t. She would have no problem in stepping in to any actress’ role. But not Kangana. There is too much baggage here to carry forward,” says the source.
