New Delhi: Madhubala, who is often called “the Venus of Indian cinema”, is the latest celebrity in the list of the Bollywood brigade which will feature at Madame Tussauds museum in New Delhi, which will open later this year.

The iconic actress of the Indian cinema will have her wax figure styled on her character “Anarkali” from the classic film Mughal-e-Azam, for which she received wide recognition.

“We are glad to have the figure of Madhubala at Madame Tussauds Delhi. She continues to rule the hearts of billions of fans in the nation. We are sure that her magnetic beauty will attract her fans to click a selfie and relive a special moment with her. This way, they will be transported back to the golden era of cinema,” Anshul Jain, the general manager and director of Merlin Entertainments said. 

Madhubala appeared in Bollywood classics like Chalti Ka Naam Gaadi, Mr & Mrs ‘55, Kala Paani and Howrah Bridge. The actress gained global recognition when she featured in a popular American magazine in 1952. In 2008, the Indian Post issued a commemorative postage stamp featuring her. The actress died in 1969 at the young age of 36.

Earlier, a wax statue of former captain of the Indian cricket team and legendary all-rounder Kapil Dev was unveiled at the wax museum, which already has other sports figures like Sachin Tendulkar, Lionel Messi, and David Beckham. 

Madame Tussauds Delhi, managed by Merlin Entertainment, will be thrown open to the public towards the end of this year. Located at Conna-ught Place, the museum will also have wax statues of personalities like PM Narendra Modi, actor Amitabh Bachchan, cricket legend Sachin Tendulkar, and American pop star Lady Gaga.
