The remarkable life of the illustrious Kaifi and Shaukat Azmi, parents of actor Shabana and cinematographer Baba Azmi, is already a hugely successful play named Kaifi & I, starring Javed Akhtar and Shabana Azmi.

We now hear that there are at least four leading producers in Bollywood desirous of making a film version of the love story. Shabana may well agree to the offer to celebrate her parents’ life, provided they cast a fresh, younger pair.

“Javed and I have played the role on stage over and over again all over the world. We’ve taken the roles as far as we can. Now it’s time for other actors to see what they can do with the characters,” Shabana opines.

The news comes as the actress lost her mother Shaukat Kaifi this week. “Nothing and nobody can ever prepare for the loss of a parent, but I am calm. My brother Baba, who never expresses emotion, is very broken. I am grateful I got a chance to serve her and that I was with her when she breathed her last,” she had said about her mother’s passing.
