Ali Zafar

The very likeable singer-composer-actor Ali Zafar won’t be in India for the release of his new film, the romantic Dear Zindagi. Ali who used to be a frequent visitor to India for his acting and stage performances, was last seen in Shaad Ali’s underwhelming Kill Dil. In an interview, he talks about his film, his colleagues Alia Bhatt, Shah Rukh Khan and upcoming projects.

Do you regret not being in India for the release of your new film?
I have no regrets in life. Life has given me enough to cherish; one should be grateful for what he or she has.

What are your thoughts on working with Gauri Shinde for Dear Zindagi?
I still remember the day I was watching Gauri’s English Vinglish and telling myself that I would love to work with this director one day. And so it happened. I guess I am blessed. Gauri is extremely passionate about her writing. She is a real gem.

What was it like working with Alia and Shah Rukh?
Alia is as lovely to work with as her onscreen character. I found Alia to be a thorough professional. She is completely engrossed in her character. SRK is SRK! What can one say about him?

Gauri said you have an interesting character to play. Tell us something about your character…
I play someone who’s a complete opposite of me. He’s a good-looking, charming musician who she happens to meet one fine night and…

What role do you like personally prefer — singer or actor? Which vocation are you focusing on?
I love making music and then performing it for an audience. But then, I love making movies too.

What are you currently up to as a singer and actor?
I’ve been working on my fourth album and my first Pakistani feature film.

Is it true that your brother is readying for a career in showbiz?
He is super-talented; perhaps more than I am. He’s going to be the next big thing, Inshallah.

Do you have a message for your fans, audience and listeners?
Keep watching and keep listening with an open heart and open mind. Love each other. Peace.
