Mumbai: A magistrate court on Friday remanded controversial former Bigg Boss contestant Ajaz Khan to one-day police custody. The cyber crime cell of Mumbai police arrested Khan on Thursday for allegedly creating and uploading various ‘objectionable’ videos on YouTube and video sharing app TikTok.

On Friday, the police produced Khan before additional chief metropolitan magistrate S.B. Bhajipale and told the court that they need the actor's custody for further investigation. They claimed before the court that the videos shared by Khan could create law and order situation ahead of the Assembly elections.

On the other hand Khan's lawyers Adil Khatri and Nazneen Khatri opposed police's plea and said that custodial interrogation of accused is not required in this case. They claimed that the accused was lip-syncing movie dialogues which are sanctioned by the Censor Board. They also argued that the dialogues, which are part of Khan’s shared videos shared, are part of movies and nobody had objected to them until now and hence the claim of police that it could create law and order situation is untrue.

According to Khan’s lawyers there are three videos that Khan shared on TikTok which are lip-syncing of movie dialogs and Khan is seen speaking in another video he shared on YouTube. But in that video, he has asked people to restrain from mob lynching in the name of God Ram. “There is nothing wrong in what he has stated,” said advocate Khatri.

The police has registered a case against the actor under Section 153A (promoting enmity between different groups on grounds of religion, race etc.) and Section 34 (Acts done by several persons in furtherance of common intention) of Indian Penal Code along with Section 67 of the IT Act (publishing or transmitting obscene material in electronic form).
