Love stories mostly make for delightful watch and it demands greater attention when the love story is of India’s two big political stalwarts — Rajiv Gandhi, the former Prime Minister and his wife Sonia Gandhi, the present president of the Congress Party.

Actor Karanvir Bohra is going to produce and act in a short film which will show the love story between (late) Rajiv Gandhi and Sonia Gandhi. Karanvir says, “It’s tribute to the love story between Sonia and Rajiv ji. It is a fictional film which will have no political agenda involved. It doesn’t even intend to capture eyeballs. It is a simple story which is made aiming to create a different kind of content for the audience.”

The film also aims to promote love and world peace. “I am an actor and my job is to act but sometimes, you come across an idea and you don’t want to wait for someone to back it. For me, it was one such idea,” he says and adds, “Maybe few years back, when digital platform was not that effective, it would have been difficult to take such a step but now thanks to its growing reach, it has become easier to showcase one’s creativity and so, I took up this project. I’ve always been fascinated with classic love stories of the 50s and the 60s. Such love stories are not made anymore.”

But how did he get such an idea? He reveals, “I was browsing on the net and happened to see Rendezvous with Simi Garewal with Rajiv Gandhi ji. I was mesmerised by the way he spoke and the way he carried himself with elegance and especially the way he spoke about his wife. He shared how they met and how he mustered the courage to seek permission from his mother, the then Prime Minister, Indira Gandhi. That’s where my film will end. It will be my tribute to that love story and to people who believe in true love.”

Priya Banerjee will play Sonia’s role. The Jazbaa actress says, “It was so sudden and pleasant for me that when Karanvir asked me to be the film’s part, I couldn’t refuse. It’s such a beautiful concept.” Karanvir is expected to fund the whole project. The film will be titled Ijazat and will be made in English and Italian.
