While there are reports that Ranveer Singh will feature in a song and dance sequence in Sanjay Leela Bhansali’s Padmavati, sources close to the project say that it couldn’t be further from the truth.

The character of Allaudin Khilji could hardly be prone to singing and dancing, they say. “In fact, he’s shown to be quite in opposition to music. Ranveer gets to do no singing, dancing or romancing — not even with his on-screen wife Aditi Rao Hydari, with whom he’s shown to be quite brutal and abrupt. So there’s no question of singing and dancing at all,” the source says.

In fact, there had been much criticism of Ranveer’s version of Bajirao singing and dancing in SLB’s Bajirao Mastani. The warrior song Malhari saw Maharashtrians, including the very vocal Nana Patekar, openly slamming the artistic liberty taken with the historical figure.

No such dramatic freedom will be afforded in Padmavati.

Says a source, “While Ranveer won’t sing and dance, Bhansali is shooting a lavish celebration song, where he will feature as a spectator. The singing and dancing will be done by others.”

There’s also speculation that Ranveer’s Allaudin is to be a bisexual in Padmavati. But no such sexual libertinage is afforded to his character. “He isn’t portrayed as a bisexual in the movie, whatever the historical figure’s preferences may have been in real life,” asserts an informed source.
