Ayushmann Khurrana, who has been experimenting with some rather interesting roles, will soon be seen playing a blind pianist in Sriram Raghavan’s Andhadhun. The actor reveals that the film represents a deliberate effort on his part to step out of his comfort zone.

“It was a deliberate decision to move away from slice-of-life films. I don’t think you need to reinvent yourself with every film, but you should establish yourself in a particular genre and then break the mould,” Ayushmann says.

He adds that he didn’t just wait for an interesting project to land in his lap. When he heard about the mystery-thriller through casting director Mukesh Chabbra, he made sure he bagged a part in it.

“I told him (Mukesh) that since the character was that of a musician, and I was a musician in real life, I would be able to learn his mannerisms faster than a non-musician. And I asked him to conduct a screen test,” the actor says, adding, “I was ready to do the film as soon as possible. I knew that it would be a game changer for me.”

Andhadhun directed by Sriram Raghavan also stars Tabu and Radhika Apte as the female leads.
