Bowing out of Sanjay Leela Bhansali’s production of the Sahir Ludhianvi biopic looks like a sign of Priyanka Chopra bidding a gradual adieu to Bollywood. PeeCee, whose career in Hollywood and on American television is going great guns, had actually shown an impressive keenness to be in the Sahir biopic.
A source close to the development, says, “She was to play Amrita Pritam, who had a very special place in Sahir Ludhianvi’s life. In fact, she was so excited with the project that she wanted to co-produce it with Bhansali. But when he expressed an inability to let her come on board as a producer, she began to lose interest in the project. Finally, she told Bhansali she would rather not do a film where she was not the lead.”
Priyanka’s last Bollywood release was Prakash Jha’s Jai Gangaajal, which didn’t work at the box office. There are feelers among Bollywood folks that she is calling it a day in the industry back home. “We don’t see any sign of Priyanka taking up any Bollywood film in the near future. She has signed no film in Bollywood. But she has completed two films in Hollywood and is working on another Hollywood project at the moment,” says a filmmaker friend of the actress.
