The Delhi police chief, Mr Alok Kumar Verma, has advised senior police officials to use social media platforms carefully and avoid posting the-ir personal opinions on their official accounts.

Senior officers of the Delhi police have been instructed to use their official Twitter handles more judiciously, avoiding posting opinions and retweeting articles not related to policing.

They have also been asked to pay more attention to grammar. The officers have been asked not to post opinions and/or retweet articles not related to policing on their official Twitter handles, a senior police officer said.

The matter was discussed at a recent meeting and Mr Verma, who instructed the officers in this regard and also made a point about gra-mmar and sentence formation for posts on official Twitter handles, asking the officers to be more attentive, the officer said.

The matter was first discussed after a senior officer posted a clarification on Twitter to stop rumours giving a communal angle to a murder case in the city earlier this year. Though the officer was lauded by her seniors for doing so, the subject of tweets by senior police officers th-rough their official Twi-tter handles was taken up by the top brass.
