The University Grants Commission has sought suggestions and feedback on a policy document, UGC guidelines and regulations for the establishment of “World-Class Institutions”.

Recently, the commission issued a public notice asking academicians and stakeholders to submit their feedback on UGC guidelines and regulations.

The ministry of human resources development designed the concerned policy document on October 7, for which the last date for submitting the feedback is October 28.

Earlier this year in February, Union finance minister Arun Jaitely in the Budget announcements committed of empowering higher educational institutions to help them become world-class teaching and research institutions.

However, in March, PM Narendra Modi reiterated the plan to set up 20 world-class universities in the country. So, to achieve this ambitious plan of establishing world-class universities, the government will identify 10 privately-owned or controlled and 10 government-owned or controlled institutions.

The UGC draft guidelines and regulations contain eligibility criteria, selection procedure, other regulatory aspects, monitoring and evaluation for these institutions.
