A 16-year-old boy has been detained on charges of abducting and strangling a minor girl who had gone to meet her boyfriend at a park in Khajuri Khas area in northeast Delhi on Monday.
The victim, a Class 10 student, was in a relationship with a boy from his lane in Sri Ram Colony, the police said.
They said the girl’s family was against her relationship with the youth and her brother had reportedly reprimanded her for meeting the boy on August 30.
On the evening of the same day, the girl went to meet him again near a temple from where she went missing, said a senior police officer.
The accused met her near the temple and managed to abduct and take her to Surya Enclave in Loni area in Uttar Pradesh’s Ghaziabad, where he strangulated her to death, he said.
The police found her body from there on September 1.
The family members of the victim had registered a case at the Khajuri Khas police station. They suspected a youth from their lane was behind her disappearance.
While the police were trying to trace the girl, her family received calls from an unknown number and the caller said she was in Firoz Shah Kotla area. The called later said she was in Yamuna Vihar area.
But all efforts to trace her failed and her body was found dumped at a vacant plot in Loni, the officer said. The accused allegedly tried to force himself on her, but later strangled her as she resisted, the police said. During investigation, the police put the number which was used to call the victim’s family on surveillance. The accused was located in Loni area from where he was arrested. The post-mortem report revealed strangulation as cause of death, the police said.
