With the Delhi police armed with two high-level opinions on Sunanda Pushkar’s viscera results, the SIT sleuths are likely to shift their focus back to injury number 10, of total 15 on her body, which it believes was apparently inflicted forcibly possibly using a syringe.

“On the basis of the earlier AIIMS report, it was learnt that injury number 10 was a syringe mark and it appeared to have been forcefully done. It was also learnt from the final report that injury number 10 could have been fatal,” said a SIT member privy to the probe, adding, “With the FBI report reiterating that Sunanda died of poisoning, which may have been injected, we will focus back to this angle with all our attention.”

The sources revealed that as per the FBI findings there are certain other chemicals whose presence have been suggested by the agency in Sunanda’s viscera. “We are working on these leads as well but are not in a position to disclose as it may affect the investigations,” added the source. The investigators have so far conducted polygraph tests on six persons, all prime witnesses in the case, including her husband Shashi Tharoor’s domestic help Narayan Singh, driver Bajrangi and Sanjay Dewan, a close friend of the couple. Three others — S.K. Sharma, Vikas Ahlawat and Sunil Trakru — have also undergone the polygraph test. Mr Tharoor was not subjected to the test, but has been questioned thrice in connection with the case with a strong possibility that he will be summoned again soon.

In January last year, the police had claimed that Sunanda was poisoned, and registered a murder case against unknown persons.

The police team probing the case has so far questioned at least 15 people. Sunanda’s son Shiv Menon was quizzed by the SIT on February 5. The police sources added that a meeting headed by special commissioner of police, law and order Deepak Mishra and consisting of all the members of the SIT went on for several hours on Friday during which a future course of action was chalked out.
