Pat Farmer, an ultra-marathon runner from Australia, is running over 4,000 km in 60 days from Kanyakumari and finishing in Kashmir as part of the Spirit of India Run organised by India Tourism and the ministry of external affairs. Farmer holds multiple world records for endurance running from the North Pole to the South Pole, and across Australia, New Zealand, Vietnam, the Middle East and North America.

He launched his run on January 26 to celebrate India’s Republic Day and Australia Day.

Students from DIHM and Amity University gathered at Badarpur-Delhi border (near toll plaza) to welcome and cheer Pat Farmer from where he ran all the way to India Gate & Rashtrapati Bhavan. He also addressed a media gathering organised at Dilli Haat-INA, followed by a cultural programme.

The Spirit of India Run is aimed at cementing relations between India and Australia; encourage tourism and personal relationships with a view to create awareness of India as a ‘must experience’ destination for travellers from Australia; and support causes and charity in the current endeavour to raise funds for education of girl child.

This run has also provided a huge opportunity to showcase various tourism destinations across the run route in Australia and other markets as a TV film is being made on this event which would be telecast on leading TV channels in Australia, New Zealand and other parts of the world.

This run is expected to showcase important tourism attractions of Delhi in Australia thus projecting Delhi as a tourist destination, which would help to increase the tourist flow from Australia and other countries.
