Stalker rapes, strangles girl, burns body

A teenager was allegedly raped and burned to death by a stalker in East Delhi’s Gandhi Nagar area. The police recovered charred body of a teenage girl on July 28.

During initial probe, the police had termed it as a suicide case, but autopsy revealed that the girl had been strangled to death and her body was set on fire later. Sources said the police suspected that it could be a case of sexual assault because lower portion of her body was found burned.

“During investigation, one of the victim’s friends disclosed that they were stalked by two youth in the locality. When her friend (deceased) refused a proposal of one of the stalker, he got infuriated and threatened to kill her. The victim also had been harassed and assaulted by another stalker,” said a senior police official. After the friend’s testimony, the police arrested two youth who were stalking and harassing the girls. During interrogation, youth confessed that the girl was first raped and then strangled. To conceal sexual assault, they burned the lower portion of the body and fled from the room.

“One of the arrested accused is a serial sexual offender. There are several cases registered against him. Police claim that when two suspects were detained, deceased friend’s identified them. She claimed that she was also sexually assaulted by them. Cops will now registered two separate cases, one for the murder and another of harassment,” said a senior police official.
