Delhi University’s St. Stephen’ College has decided to continue with its own process of written test and interview admission criteria for admissions to the undergraduate courses.

Out of 63 colleges in the Delhi University, till now only St. Stephen’s College and Jesus and Mary College conducted their own additional undergraduate admission process. In these colleges, 85 per cent of weightage is assigned for the college cut-off and the remaining 15 per cent weightage is divided between the additional test and interview process.

However, the teachers who opposed the written test had expected it to get scrapped this year. However, new principal John Varghese decided to retain the test, which was introduced by former principal Valson Thampu in 2015.

According to college officials, Mr Varghese also plans to be the head admissions tutor, for the first time. The final decision was made at a meeting on May 6, which authorised the constitution of an admissions committee, consisting of in-house teachers.

The religious minority college offers 10 undergraduate courses in B.A. and B.Sc. streams, including philosophy, English, Sanskrit, chemistry, physics and pass courses.

“Before preparing for my boards, I had decided that I would be opting for St. Stephen’s College only,” said Sunidhi Verma, an aspiring candidate.
