While the admission process for the additional first merit list of Delhi University is over, several south campus colleges are still left with many vacant seats.

According to a DU official, preparing a merit list of students was a very challenging task for the colleges as they received thousands of applicantions for the remaining few seats.

“The colleges somehow completed the admission process after taking out the merit list. While some colleges had fair admissions, there are some who are still waiting to fill their seats, especially the south campus,” the university official said.

Sri Aurobindo College admitted three students for around 110 seats within three days, even as five to 10 admissions were cancelled. “The merit system is the main reason for such low admissions. This system is fine for campus colleges because every student will try getting admission to that college where he is eligible for admission. I expect students to turn up in the next merit list,” said SAC principal Bipin Agarwal.

Aryabhatt College principal Dr Manoj Sinha also maintained that he faced difficulty coming out with a merit list.

“We had received about 48,000 applications. Only 25 admissions were confirmed for about 270 seats in three days and only two admissions were cancelled. Now since we still have to come out with merit lists two more times under phase one, we expect to fill up our seats by next week,” Mr Sinha said.
