SDMC’s app to push reading among kids
To promote a child’s interest in reading through short stories, the South Delhi Municipal Corporation (SDMC) has launched ‘Read to Kids’ app.
To promote a child’s interest in reading through short stories, the South Delhi Municipal Corporation (SDMC) has launched ‘Read to Kids’ app. This app will help in the expansion of primary education in the SDMC with an appropriate application of ITC. Launching the app, SDMC’s mayor, Shyam Sharma, said that a positive change can only be brought with the help of technology.
According to SDMC officials, ‘Read to Kids’ app can be downloaded free from the play store and it will provide interesting stories in Hindi and English for parents and teachers to imbibe keenness in kids towards learning. Initially the app is being made available in 150 primary schools of the SDMC. The app will also go a long way in curbing the dropout rate.
An NGO, Society for All Round Development (SARD), has played a key role in bringing world reader close to the SDMC to ensure reach of digital books to the kids in the present age of digital revolution.
This will help in making available round the clock e-library to teachers, parents and principals for the benefit of small children.
“The SDMC has been making use of technology in the education sector. It has been providing focus on the quality of education. The corporation has been concerned about the dropout rate. This can be mitigated with the help of technology including the use of app,” said additional director education, Mukesh Yadav.
SARD CEO Sudhir Bhatnagar said, “In this age of technology, ‘Read to Kids’ will bring a variety of good quality story books to those children coming to SDMC schools.”
SDMC’s leader of House, Subhash Arya, said that the children from the poor families are being imparted education in the SDMC schools and if they are able to get comprehensive knowledge through this app, their foundation will become strong.
“The app will help in developing keenness towards education and hopefully in curbing dropout rate. The corporation has been deputing its teachers during summer vacation to visit each and every house in order to improve enrolment in the schools,” added Mr Arya optimistically.
