In order to make learning more interesting and tech savvy, the South Delhi Municipal Corporation (SDMC) has started smart class facility in its primary schools. LED screen aided smart classroom has been commissioned on a pilot basis at the corporation’s school in Arjun Nagar.

The first school with smart class facility was inaugurated by the mayor, Shyam Sharma, and the chairman of standing committee, Shalinder Singh Monti. “LED screen aided smart classroom has been commissioned on pilot basis. The process to establish such smart classrooms in five schools is on. The SDMC has decided to commission this facility in 12 schools for the time being. This will go a long way in making learning easy and interesting for the children,” said Mr Sharma.

According to Mr Monti, the SDMC has not to spend any substantial amount in commissioning this facility. “This is a unique initiative of the SDMC to start smart class by installing LED in the school. The LED screen will be used to display e-reading material for the students. Most of the e-reading material is in animated form. Students can easily learn the difficult subjects with LED aided animated lessons. This unique initiative will be taken forward,” said Mr Monti.

Sources in the civic body said that in future the facility would be extended to all the SDMC schools. “After successful trial and feedback, it will be extended to all the 588 schools of the corporation,” he said.

The SDMC is also working on to set up an e-reading material library to acquire and distribute e-learning materials. The material will be classified subject-wise and the details will remain available on line. This will facilitate the primary schools to provide meaningful education to children, hence achieving remarkable distinction.
