Three armed robberies have been reported in different areas of East Delhi over the past three days. One of them, where five armed men barged into a wholesale shop in New Ashok Nagar and robbed the owner of Rs 2 lakh at gunpoint, has been captured on CCTV.
The suspects also fired at the owner of the shop but he escaped unhurt. The suspects have not been identified yet but the police said they have narrowed down the list of suspects based on previous involvement in similar crimes.
In the footage of the incident, which took place on Saturday, five armed men wearing masks are seen stopping outside the shop in Kondli area.
Two of them tried to push the owner, Rajeev Kumar, to a corner while one accomplice entered the shop. Kumar tried to throw a plastic chair at one of them when the robbers opened fire at him, which thankfully missed the target.
According to Mr Kumar’s statement to the police, the bullet missed him as he had ducked as soon as the robber pointed the pistol at him. Mr Kumar said that the two robbers chased him while the others took out his day’s collection. Two other robbers were waiting for them outside the shop on two motorbikes.
