As the Narendra Modi led government came under Opposition attack over the police action at the Jawaharlal Nehru University (JNU), Prime Minister Narendra Modi met the BJP top brass, including party president Amit Shah. Sources disclosed the meeting had been scheduled earlier and was called to discuss coming Budget Session of Parliament and coming Assembly elections in five states.

Those attended the meeting included home minister Rajnath Singh, finance minister Arun Jaitley and external affairs minister Sushma Swaraj, besides Mr Shah. Sources disclosed some organisational issues also came up for discussion during the meeting.

“The meeting of senior party leaders happens at regular intervals and is routine. The Budget Session is coming and so are Assembly elections in five states. There are organisational issues of the party as well,” a senior BJP leader said. He, however, added that the JNU issue too was likely to have come up for discussion.

The Prime Minister, sources said, also held pre Budget consultations earlier with his key ministers, including Mr Jaitley, Mr Singh and Ms Swaraj.
