Pathankot spurs alert

In the wake of the terrorist attack at the Air Force Base in Pathankot on Saturday, security was stepped up in the national capital. Four terrorists were killed and two Air Force personnel martyred in the attack.

A senior police officer said that security has been significantly heightened at the airport, railway stations, bus stands and other vital installations in the city. Vigil was also increased in several areas, including popular market places, in South Delhi, Central Delhi and the VIP movement zone in Lutyen’s Delhi.

The Delhi police’s top brass met to discuss the security situation and directed all SHOs to ensure elaborate security arrangements in their jurisdictions. Special police commissioner (law and order) took stock of the situation and remained in touch with junior officials for updates.

A senior police officer said that sleuths of the crime branch and special cell of the Delhi police have also been roped in and the security unit has been asked to form a strategy in connection with potential threats to VIPs in the national capital.

Local police have been asked to remain extra vigilant and Swat team and quick response team have also been deployed in several parts of the city for quick response in case an emergency situation arises, the senior official added.

The police said that traffic police officials, who have been manning city roads for the odd-even scheme, have been asked to remain extra vigilant and inform seniors if they notice any suspected activity in a vehicle. “The traffic cops are already on the road and there could be no one better who could keep a tab on outdoor activities,” added the cops.
