Eleven prominent schools in South Delhi have been issued notices after mosquito breeding was found in its premises. The notices were issued by the South Delhi Municipal Corporation after supervisory staff found breeding in 11 schools out of 26 educational institutions inspected by them.
According to the SMDC, as per instructions of standing committee chairman Shailender Singh, the supervisory staff and domestic breeding checkers (DBCs) inspected various public schools under the jurisdiction of the corporation. “They inspected 26 educational institutions where a large number of students are being imparted education. Mr Singh has instructed the public health department to treat all breeding points in the schools as children are of paramount importance. The DBCs along with supervisory staff thoroughly checked the premises to root out breeding mosquitoes,” said a senior SDMC official.
On finding mosquito breeding at Blue Bells International School Greater Kailash, DAV Public School Kailash Hills, G.L.T. Sarswati Bal Mandir Nehru Nagar, Deshbandhu College, Kalka Public School Alaknanda, St. George Public School Alaknanda, Delhi Public School Sunder Nagar, Mother’s International School opp. ITI, Vasant Valley school Vasant Kunj, N.K. Bagrodia School Sector-IV Dwarka and Queen Valley School Sector VIII Dwarka, the SDMC’s public health department issued notices to the school authorities. “The inspections were conducted during last couple of days. The department has already treated all places where breeding was detected,” he added.
Mr Singh, meanwhile, has asked the public health department to leave no stone unturned in eliminating breeding of mosquitoes in the localities/offices/important premises, including educational institutions. “The SDMC has been concentrating on the prevention and control of the dengue and other vector-borne diseases,” said Mr Singh.
The department has been organising reorientation training programme for all field and supervisory staff of the SDMC.
