In a shocking incident, a woman from Meghalaya died after being stabbed multiple times at MG Road Metro Station in Gurgaon on Monday morning. She was stabbed 8 to 10 times by a young man, identified by the police as Jitender. The attacker was caught by people and handed over to the police. The police suspect that the man knew the victim, who was married. They both are residents of Gurgaon’s Sector 18. According to sources, the incident happened in the gallery area of the station.

The deceased, Pinky (34), hailed from Shillong while the accused, Jitender (25), who is an auto driver, hails from Uttar Pradesh. They had known each other for some time. Therefore, police has not ruled out the possibility of a jilted lover’s angle.

She suffered fatal injuries to her vital organs. She bled profusely while the crowd apprehended the accused and beat him up. The police arrived at the scene and arrested the accused.

The victim was rushed to Uma Sanjivani Hospital in a critical condition. She was then referred to the civil hospital but the victim died during medical treatment.

“Maan Singh, a man of Nepalese origin and Pinki’s husband, said that Jitender has been harassing his wife of late when she travelled to and from the station,” said a Gurgaon police official. “As I was talking to her on phone, there was a loud noise and the call was disconnected. No one picked up my call after that. About half an hour ago, someone picked up the call and informed me about the incident,” said Mr Singh.

“The incident occurred where CISF personnel are normally not positioned,” said Manjeet Singh, the Central Industrial Security Force spokesperson.

The accused too has been admitted to a hospital following injuries due to the assault by the public.

“Train operations are normal,” one of the officials said.

“The accused said that he was in unrequited love with the victim,” said Gurgaon police spokesperson Hawa Singh.
