Furious over CBI raids on the office of his principal secretary at the Delhi Secretariat, chief minister Arvind Kejriwal on Tuesday called Prime Minister Narendra Modi a ‘coward” and “psychopath”, accusing the Union government of resorting to vendetta politics. He also targeted union finance minister Arun Jaitley over alleged corruption in Delhi’s cricket body under his watch. He also alleged that the day-long action was to look for an inquiry committee file relating to Delhi District Cricket Association (DDCA) that “traps” Mr Jaitley.

The Chief Minister, who is involved in a prolonged tussle with the Centre, tweeted: “When Modi cudn’t handle me politically, he resorts to this cowardice. Modi is a coward and psychopath,” he said in a tweet, expressing his anguish over the raids.

The language sparked an angry condemnation from a furious BJP, which demanded an apology from the chief minister for his “disgraceful” remarks.

“They say that my choice of words were incorrect, but your actions are bad. My words may be bad, I was born in Siwan village of Haryana. Maybe my words were bad. But your actions are bad. You apologise to the nation for your misdeeds and I will apologise for my words,” Mr Kejriwal said in the evening after the BJP attack on him for his strong words against Mr Modi.

The chief minister further went on to say: “CBI lying. My own office raided. Files of CM office are being looked into. Let Modi say which file he wants I am the only CM who dismissed, on my own, a minister n a senior officer on charges of corruption and handed their cases to CBI. “If CBI had any evidence against Rajender, why didn’t they share it with me I would have acted against him,” said Mr Kejriwal in a series of tweets.

“Rajendra (Kumar) is an excuse, Kejriwal is the target,” he said, referring to the chief minister’s principal secretary who the CBI alleged was involved in corruption. “I am surprised at the raids at my office,” Mr Kejriwal told reporters in the evening, hours after he broke the news of the raid with a tweet “CBI raids my office” as the CBI team reached the third floor of Delhi Secretariat.

However, the CBI denied raiding Mr Kejriwal’s office. But the chief minister said the CBI was lying because its officers did search his office. He said his office didn’t maintain files beyond 10-15 days old.“If they were looking for files of 2007-14 period, what were they looking for in my office ”.
