Minor girl dies in mishap, kin blames hospital

In a tragic incident, a two- and-a-half-year-old girl was allegedly crushed to death by a Honda City car in Bharat Nagar area of Northwest Delhi on Thursday afternoon.

In a tragic incident, a two- and-a-half-year-old girl was allegedly crushed to death by a Honda City car in Bharat Nagar area of Northwest Delhi on Thursday afternoon. The police arrested the errant driver, identified as Mobin.

Sources said that after the minor girl was crushed under the left trye of the car, her grandfather took her to a nearby hospital but was refused treatment. He told the police that it was due to the delay in treatment that his granddaughter died.

The police said that the incident took place on Thursday at around 2:30pm in the Ashok Vihar Phase 5 area when Avantika, the deceased, was playing in a parking lot next to where her grandfather, Mahku Lal (46) irons clothes.

The accused, Mobin, trying to take out the car, allegedly reversed the vehicle and crushed Avantika under the left tyre of the Honda City car, who was standing behind the vehicle.

Bobby, owner of Bobby Mistry, where Mobin works, reportedly raised an alarm to inform Mobin about the child but by that time, one of the tyre went past the child and she was crushed Sources said Avantika’s grandfather, Mehku Lal, who was present at the spot, took the child to a nearby hospital in Ashok Vihar area but was refused treatment due to lack of facilities.

Bleeding profusely, Avantika was taken to the Babu Jag Jivan Ram hospital in Jahangirpuri in the Honda city car, driven by Mobin. The doctors tried to resuscitate her but in vain. Sources said that Avantika lived with her parents and grandfather in the Shalimar Bagha area. Police said that they registered a case at the Bharat Nagar police station and arrested Mobin under relevant sections of the Indian Penal Code. Further investigation is underway.
