A 24-year-old nurse from Manipur has been missing from outside her hostel in west Delhi’s Janakpuri area since Wednesday. The woman, employed in a private nursing home in Janakpuri West, lives in a hostel nearby. Her relatives in Manipur have been informed about the matter.
The nurse was heading back to her hostel with a female colleague when a hostel staff, known to both of them, met them on the road outside the hostel on Wednesday, a senior police official said.
The nurse asked her colleague to leave as the man wanted to talk to her about something important in private. Her colleague left and waited for her at the hostel, but the nurse did not return.
The colleague, along with other hostel mates, then started looking for the hostel staff (who met them outside hostel), but he too could not be seen anywhere, following which they informed the police on Thursday morning. “A missing complaint has been lodged at the Janakpuri police station and efforts are on to track the man and the woman, who are missing,” DCP (West) Pushpendra Kumar said.
Considering its sensitivity, developments in the matter are being monitored by Delhi police commissioner Alok Kumar Verma. During investigation, the police was informed that the hostel staffer had proposed to missing woman earlier, but she had rejected the proposal. However, these facts could be verified only when the missing persons are questioned, the senior police official said. The woman’s friends have alleged that she was abducted by the man, but the police said that they do not have any such leads till now.
The mobile phones of both the hostel staff and the woman are switched off. Several teams have been formed to trace them. But no case has been registered in connection with the matter so far, the official added.
