A money exchanger was robbed by bike-borne miscreants who shot and injured him grievously taking away cash, including Indian and foreign currency worth Rs 12 lakh, in the Jamia Nagar area of southeast Delhi, the police said on Tuesday.
The victim, identified as Shariq (35), worked a as a money exchanger in the Julaina area and was returning to his home in the Jamia Nagar area when he was intercepted and robbed on Monday night. He also sustained two bullet injuries on his arm and abdomen, said a police officer.
“Shariq had reached a deserted part in the Noor Nagar area at around 9.30 pm when two bike-borne robbers stopped him and tried to snatch his bag containing currency notes worth Rs 12 lakh. As he resisted, one of the robbers fired on him, injuring him in the arm and abdomen and carried away the bag,” he said. Shariq fell on the road and someone made a PCR call following which the police reached the spot and rushed him to a hospital where he was treated for gunshot injuries.
A case of robbery and attempt to murder has been registered against the unidentified robbers.
