Man mowed to death in GTB Enclave, driver held
A 50-year-old man, identified as Mohammed Yaseen, was mowed to death by a speeding car in northeast Delhi’s GTB Enclave on Thursday.
A 50-year-old man, identified as Mohammed Yaseen, was mowed to death by a speeding car in northeast Delhi’s GTB Enclave on Thursday. The police said the errant driver, Gaurav Gupta, was arrested on Friday.
According to a senior police official, the deceased lived in the area and was a rickshaw-puller.
At 11.30 pm on Thursday, after finishing his day’s work, Yaseen was walking back home when a speeding car came from behind and hit him.
“The victim flew a couple of metres away and started bleeding profusely from his head. The errant driver did not stop and sped away. Locals, who saw the accident, rushed to the spot and immediately made a PCR call,” said the official.
A police van reached the spot and rushed the victim to a nearby hospital, where doctors tried to resuscitate him, but in vein. They finally declared him dead.
Based on the statement of one of the locals, an FIR was registered against the absconding driver. “After Yaseen’s death, we informed his family and sent his body for a post-mortem.
An FIR under relevant sections of the Indian Penal Code (IPC) was registered against the accused at the GTB Nagar police station.
