The Delhi police has arrested a 22-year-old man who allegedly tried to rape a five-year-old girl in an isolated area in northeast Del-hi’s Karawal Nagar area late Thursday night. The police said that the accus-ed, Sombir, has been arre-sted under relevant sections of the IPC and Pocso Act. The accused was sent to judicial custody on Friday. According to the police, the incident took place at around 11pm in the Patel Vihar area of Karawal Nagar. The minor girl was allegedly playing outside her house when Sombir lured her on the pretext of chocolates and took her to an isolated spot.

The police said that Sombir attempted to rape the minor girl. However, he fled from the spot after she lost consciousness. In the meantime, the girl’s parents, who had been frantically searching for her, informed the police.

The girl was found unconscious in an isolated area and her medical examination confirmed that there had been an attempt to rape, a police official said.

Within a few hours, the police nabbed Sombir, who was hiding in the same area.
