The Delhi police has arrested a 40-year-old man who allegedly abetted his wife to commit suicide in south Delhi’s Vasant Kunj area and then headed towards UP to secretly cremate her body to avoid arrest.
The accused, identified as Rakesh, has been charged under Sections 498A (domestic violence), 306 (abetment of suicide) and 201 (causing disappearance of evidence of offence) of the IPC, the police said on Saturday.
The incident took place on Thursday evening when the police received a call about a quarrel at a residence in Vasant Kunj.
When a police team reached there, it emerged that a fight had taken place between a married couple, following which the husband left with the wife in his car for their native village in UP’s Sambhal.
When the police came across some contradicting statements from neighbours, it decided to cross check and soon it turned out that the man was heading towards a crematorium in UP’s Brijghat area.
He was intercepted by a police team there and his wife’s body was found inside the car. The accused was brought back to Delhi and during interrogation, he told police that his wife committed suicide, the senior official said.
He further said, the woman’s body was sent for a post-mortem examination and the initial report suggested that she died by hanging herself.
