Delhi Congress president Ajay Maken on Sunday blamed the AAP government and the BJP-led municipal bodies for the present plight of Delhi due to the ongoing strike by the civic employees in protest against the non-payment of their salaries. Thousands of Congress workers, holding banners and placards, and distributing pamphlets protested against the AAP and the BJP in 14 districts across the city.
Mr Maken said the people of Delhi were su-ffering only because of the ongoing fight betw-een the AAP and the BJP governments. Ad-dressing protesters, he said when the Congress was in power in Delhi for 15 years, out of which the BJP had been ruling the MCD for 10 years, his party never ever troubled and allow-ed the MCD to suffer due to financial crunch. He said the Congress go-vernment went out of its way to help the MCDs so as to ensure that the people did not suffer. Mr Maken said the AAP government had made tall promises like regularising ad-hoc employees, providing free wi-fi connections in Delhi, but failed to deliver on any of these promises. He said he would leave politics if it was brought to his notice th-at just two ad-hoc empl-oyees had been regular-ised, and if a single inst-ance of free wi-fi connection was provided.
Mr Maken said the pension of the retired DTC employees was stopped and pensions of widows and old people had not been paid for many months. He said streets and other parts of Delhi were now filled with mounts of garbage due to the strike by the MCD sanitation workers. He also said it was the fourth time in the last year that the MCD sanitation workers and other category of employees had struck work due to non-payment of salaries.
Mr Maken said it was a travesty of justice that the MCD sanitation workers have been facing such a fate under the hands of the AAP.
