Taking on chief minister Arvind Kejriwal with a hungerstrike and sit-in protest with a large number of supporters, BJP Lok Sabha member from East Delhi Maheish Girri demanded that the AAP chief should provide proof of his involvement in murder of the NDMC legal adviser M.M. Khan, or resign.
Mr Kejriwal had in a letter to lieutenant-governor Najeeb Jung on June 15 alleged involvement of Mr Girri and New Delhi Municipal Council vice-chairman Karan Singh Tanwar, a senior BJP leader, in Khan’s murder. After Mr Kejriwal named him in the sensational murder case, Mr Girri challenged the chief minister to present evidence against him in a public debate.
While waiting for Mr Kejriwal to join the open debate, Mr Girri announced that he will march to the chief minister’s residence and sit on an indefinite hungerstrike till he either provides evidence or resigns.
At 5 pm, after waiting for an hour, Mr Girri along with his supporters and BJP activists left for Mr Kejriwal’s official residence and started the hungerstrike. He demanded an apology from Mr Kejriwal for making baseless allegations about an unfortunate incident in which an officer lost his life.
Addressing the audience, mainly his supporters and BJP workers, Mr Girri said at the debate venue that he would not remain silent and also take legal action against Mr Kejriwal for making false allegations against him.
“Mr Kejriwal has mastery in making baseless allegations against anyone and he believes that no one can question him. I am not going to leave him for making baseless allegations. I challenged him to come and prove the allegation in court of people from which he has run away. I am taking legal opinion and will take action as per law,” said Mr Girri.
Hitting out at the AAP chief, Mr Girri said that during Anna Hazare’s movement, Mr Kejriwal used to regularly visit his residence with folded hands, seeking support for the movement.
The East Delhi MP also attacked AAP’s Delhi convener Dilip Pandey, who reportedly snubbed Mr Girri.
