KYS demands extra seats for poor at Jamia
Krantikari Yuva Sangathan (KYS) activists on Saturday submitted a memorandum to the vice-chancellors of Jamia Millia Islamia University and Ambedkar University, demanding institution of deprivation points for students from government schools in admissions to undergraduate courses.
“It is an undeniable fact that students from private schools, as well as elite government schools such as KVs, JNVs and Sainik schools with better teaching and coaching facilities, get higher marks and the domain of government-funded higher education becomes virtually theirs, as there are a very limited number of seats. It is high time that the university undertakes its responsibility of ensuring that a large section of students is not denied higher education due to loopholes in the policy,” said Harish Gautam, a KYS member.
Demanding an increase in seats at JMI and AUD, the KYS activists also demanded provision of hostel facilities and allowances to students from the deprived sections of the society.
