With Jawaharalal Nehru University issue taking several twists and turns, JNUSU joint secretary Saurabh Sharma on Sunday lodged a complaint with the police against the varsity’s dean of students welfare for granting permission for the controversial February 9 event and against varsity teacher Nivedita Menon for allegedly making an “unconstitutional speech.”
Mr Sharma, an ABVP member, explained that he had already filed his complaint to the varsity vice-chancellor, Prof. M. Jagadesh Kumar, 15 days ago but there has been no response till now from the JNU administration.
Two separate complaints have been filed on both the issues with the SHO of Vasant Kunj North police station. In the complaint filed against the dean of students welfare, Mr Sharma alleged that the dean had granted permission for the February 9 programme outside the public domain.
The complaint read, “I would like to state that we all know that permission was granted on February 9 programme by associate dean of JNU. As we all know this was going to be organised in the campus related to terrorist Afzal Guru who attacked temple for democracy, this was not new to dean of students welfare. Since this programme is being held since 2013, but knowing all these facts how was the permission granted I must say that permission was not granted in public domain, which shows dean of students welfare has supported it in other ways.”
The complaint filed against Prof. Menon allegedly read that the sloganeering in her lecture supported the propaganda of balkanisation of India as well as justified the proxy war carried out against the forces.
“Prof. Nivedita Menon, Centre for Comparative Politics and political Theory, SIS, in her lecture at the admin block, made observations like ‘India is an imperialist country and proazadi slogans on Kashmir is justified’.”
