In order to make students study Chinese language with an understanding of the cultural context, Jamia Milia Islamia has introduced a part-time certificate and diploma course in the said language for the upcoming academic session.

The varsity, which already offers an intensive diploma course in Chinese, periodically conducts classes on Chinese culture and screens films.

The new courses have been introduced with an aim to attract students who can practically utilise the knowledge of the language to understand other aspects of Chinese politics, economy and society and also for students who wish to enter the field of international business, directly or indirectly involving China.

“The Chinese language is one of the oldest languages in the world and China is one of the most populous countries in the world. Almost one fifth of the planet speaks Chinese. China is also the second largest economy in the world and the largest trading partner of the United States. Therefore, China has a huge market and the international business community is looking for more people who can speak the Chinese language and operate successfully in a Chinese cultural context,” an official statement of the varsity said.

Chinese language courses are also functional in other universities like JNU, and DU.
