The city witnessed most violent and unsafe Holi this year. The police control room (PCR) received 21 calls complaining of rape and molestation across the city on Thursday. Crimes against women, includes rape cases, were reported by three minors on the occasion of Holi.
The Delhi police’s control room on the day of Holi, received complaints about, as many as 11 cases of murder, 21 of rape and molestation, 211 of eve-teasing, 46 instances of road rage, around 40 cases of shootouts and firing, and 142 cases of stabbings. All the cases were reported on centralised phone number 100 on the day of Holi, according to the police data.
“The police also received around 13,250 cases of quarrels, of which more than 50 per cent were cases of drunken nuisance at public places,” a senior official said.
The murder cases reported on March 24 include the case of the dentist who was dragged out of his house and beaten to death by a group, including a woman and at least four juveniles, in west Delhi’s Vikaspuri area. Auto-lifting gangs were apparently extra-alert to make the most of the situation as 184 vehicle theft cases were reported on the day, as against the average of 86 reported on any normal day in Delhi, the official said. “In the 24-hour span starting 6 am on March 24, the police received around 370 calls urging officials to get loud DJ systems silenced,” he said.
