Government for CBI probe in auto irregularities

The Delhi government has recommended a CBI probe into alleged irregularities in the distribution of Letters of Intent for new autorickshaws at the Burari Transport Authority. In December last year, the AAP government had suspended three senior officials in the transport department in connection with the case.The government’s vigilance department had probed the matter and found alleged irregularities in distribution of Letters of Intent (LoIs) for around 10,000 new autorickshaws. “The government has written to the CBI to probe the alleged irregularities in distributing Letter of Intent for new autos,” sources said. The transport minister had made preliminary inquiries in the matter and found out two types of irregularities.

The LoIs were issued on pick-and-choose basis despite orders of the transport minister to follow chronological order and that the LoIs were being handed over to certain intermediaries/ unauthorised persons instead of the beneficiaries/ applicants. After the vigilance’s probe report, one official was also suspended in connection with the case. After the alleged irregularities came to light, the government had suspended three officials; scrapped 932 LoIs issued by the transport department and put on hold the exercise of issuing LOIs.
