The body of a five-year-old girl, Shristi, who died due to dengue in a hospital, was found outside her grave under mysterious conditions at Rangpuri Pahari in the Mahipalpur area on Tuesday with the police denying any desecration of the body.

The girl had died due to dengue at Safdarjung Hospital on Monday, following which her body was buried by her parents and neighbours at Rangpuri Pahari. After burying the body, they all returned to the Arjun Camp area where they lived.

The police received a call about the body of a girl lying outside her grave Tuesday morning and a team was rushed to the spot. The body was sent to AIIMS, where it was preserved.

The police ruled out any assault on the body, adding that it was possibly dug up by some stray animal. However, no external injuries were noted.

During the investigation, identity of the body was established and later the statement given by her parents was verified by the neighbours and Safdarjung Hospital authorities, said a senior police officer.

“The post-mortem examination has been conducted and initial reports rule out the possibility of any assault on her,” said the official.

Further investigation is underway and the autopsy report is awaited. The police has launched an inquest proceeding under Section 174 of CrPC.
