A Delhi court on Wednesday convicted dreaded gangster Neeraj Sehrawat, known as Neeraj Bawana, under the Arms Act, but acquitted him of several other charges including attempt to murder and obstructing and assaulting public servants while discharging their duty.
Additional sessions judge Ritesh Singh convicted Bawana for possessing firearms and an SLR robbed from a police personnel. The special cell of Delhi police had arrested the gangster in April last year from Outer Delhi’s Kamruddin Nagar after a brief encounter. The police had claimed, Bawana, in a bid to flee, had opened fire at them and they had to launch a counter attack in which he was arrested. That was the first time when he was nabbed by the police.
The gangster shot to limelight when he attacked a police team and got one of his aides, Amit alias Bhoora, released. The police was taking Bhoora to Baghpath to produce him before a court when Bawana attacked the police team and also snatched two AK-47s and an SLR.
